Ashwani's achievements in the tourism sector have been substantial and meritorious. During his time as MD of Madhya Pradesh Tourism, the state emerged as a leader in tourism in India, receiving numerous tourism awards - in fact, it is mainly due to his efforts that Madhya Pradesh continues to be a trailblazer in the Indian travel industry.
During Ashwani's tenure as Divisional Railway Manager (Delhi), the Capital's railway station was declared the most tourist-friendly two years running. His dedicated endeavours have led to the raising of the profile of India's rail heritage (he has also served as Director, National Rail Museum, New Delhi) - and as the Founder Member and Working President (and driving force) of the Indian Steam Railway Society, he is steering the country's steam heritage preservation and revival movement.
In addition, Ashwani has been a Director, Ministry of Tourism (Government of India), and CMD, India Tourism Development Corporation. Currently, he is Chief Mechanical Engineer, Northern Railways. Included among the honours Ashwani has received is the 'PATWA International Young Achievers Award', at Berlin in March 2007, and a 'Life Time Achievement Award in Tourism', in September 2010.
