Famously known as the “land of dawn lit mountains”, Arunachal Pradesh houses the place where India gets its first rays of sunrise, Dong. It is located at the confluence of Lohit and Sati rivers and it’s an absolute bliss witnessing the moment when the village glows orange-red in the morning, simply breathtaking!

Starting from Guwahati, you will travel to some of the highest places in East India. Visiting the Chinese border will be a once in a lifetime experience. Then cross Sela Pass which is covered by snow all year to reach one of the most charming monasteries in Tawang. Being at an elevation of 13700 feet will be an amazing experience. ITINERARY

 

Day 1 : Enter the Gateway to North East India (240 km | 5-6 hrs)

As soon as you reach Guwahati, you will meet our representative at the airport who will transfer you to your stay at Bhalukpong, where you will also spend overnight.

 

Day 2 : Make Momos with a family in Sangti Valley (150 km | 6-7 hrs)

Today morning, after an early breakfast you will head-out for Sangti Valley, which is known as the land of migratory black necked cranes. After settling your luggage in your room, explore the valley or you can laze around by the river. You can also try your hand at fishing, while in the evening spend time with the locals and learn some traditional dishes like momos and thukpa. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

 

Day 3 : Explore Dirang and return to Sangti (30 km | 3-4 hrs)

As soon as the sun gilds over the skies, you will head out to explore Dirang. At first, you can take a dip in the hot springs to shoo away your tiredness, and later on explore the monastery to know about the culture of the Monpa people. You can also visit Dirang Dzong, which is an 8th century Tibetan fort, that still hosts people. In the evening, you will return back to Sangti valley for a relaxing picnic by the river, and along with it barbeque some meat or cook fish you caught in the river. Relax by the bonfire, share some travel stories, and then eat your dinner. Later, sleep in your tents listening to the sound of the river.

 

Day 4 : Drive up one of the highest motorable roads in the world (140 km | 5-6 hrs)

Today you will drive to one of the highest motorable passes in the world – Sela Pass. Enroute you can stop for some hot Maggi and tea, and then proceed to appreciate Sela Lake. Afterwards, take a halt at Jaswant Ghar a war memorial dedicated to a hero. After knowing the love story of Jaswant and Sela, make your way to Monpa town of Tawang. On reaching, check in at your stay, and then attend sound show in Tawang. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

 

Day 5 : Monastery Visits (5 km | 1 hrs)

Wake up early in the morning and get ready to leave the guest house and proceed towards Khinmeygompa where you can start the day with lighting butter lamps. Learn about the Mahayana Buddhism when you reach the monastery and afterwards head out for the famous Jang falls. Appreciate the beautiful falls, and then proceed to Muktobasti which you will be startled to see handmade paper making. Walk around the village to try some local food, and then return back. Enroute visit Chakasm, which is a hanging bridge built in the 14th century. After enjoying a little by the river, you will return to your guest house for a bonfire. In the evening, spend the rest of the time at your leisure.

 

Day 6 : Bum La, SangetsarTso and other high altitude lakes (90 km | 5-6 hrs)

After breakfast, start your trip again to the Chinese region where you will see Bum La pass, that was used by China in 1962 to infiltrate India. You will meet the commander at post, who will introduce you to details and will also take you to SangetsarTso Lake. The lake is also known as Madhuri Lake, which gained famed through a Bollywood movie namely, Koyla. You will be served with lunch, after which you drive to Taksang Gonpa, which is one of a religious place in Tawang as Guru Padmasambhava in the 8th century has spent some time meditating here. Enroute you will visit spectacle many lakes. Later, return back to Tawang for the night, where a barbeque night will be organized. Sit around the bonfire and share some travel stories with your friends.

 

Day 7 : Bomdila Monastery (170 km | 6-7 hrs)

As you get up in the morning, get ready and bid farewell to your hosts. Proceed to Bomdila, and on reaching visit the Urgyelling Monastery, which is known as the birthplace of 6th Dalai Lama. You will also check-in at the Doe-gu-khil guesthouse, which is taken care by the Bomdilla monastery. After monastery exploration, you may visit the craft center located in the market area. In the evening, you can spend the rest of the time at leisure.

 

Day 8 : Drive back to Guwahati (330 km | 9-10 hrs)

Wake to a beautiful morning, and get ready to return back as today is the last day of your trip. You will drive towards Guwahati, while on the way if time permits, you can also visit Chilipam monastery. You will reach Guwahati by early evening, so that you should have time for your onward journey.
