Arunachal Pradesh is mainly famous for two things, its spectacular landscape and rich cultural heritage. For a long time, this north-eastern state of India has also been a hotspot for nature lovers. The Arunachal Pradesh road trip allows you to indulge in the vibrant culture of Tibetan Buddhists at Tawang and Urgelling Monasteries. While a visit to Orchid Research Centre and Sessa Orchid Sanctuary allows you to see incredible flora, you can learn about the lives of the Monpas by visiting local villages. This Arunachal Pradesh Jeep safari tour also takes you to some famous war memorials, where you can appreciate and honour the sacrifice of the martyrs of the Sino-Indian War.

Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Guwahati to Bhalukpong/Tezpur (approx. 235 km | 4.5 hours)

Upon landing at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, hop on to your automobiles and drive to Bhalukpong or Tezpur. On reaching your destination, transfer to your lodging and rest.

Day 02: Bhalukpong/Tezpur to Dirang | En route Sightseeing

After a sumptuous breakfast, drive to Dirang, visiting some en route attractions near Tipi. Tipi has become quite popular among tourists for housing the Orchid Research Centre and Sessa Orchid Sanctuary. Out of the over 1000 species of orchids found in India, Arunachal Pradesh is home to around 600 of them. The Orchid Research Centre is spread over an area of almost 25 acres and consists of a glass house, two natural orchidaria and a museum. With a visit to the site, you get to enjoy the sights of these vibrant flowers and learn about them.

Established in 1979, Sessa Orchid Sanctuary is home to some rare and endangered species of these aromatic flowers. Also on this Arunachal Pradesh road trip, visit some popular attractions in Dirang town. First, explore Dirang Dzong, a 17th-century fortress that is a reminder of the monastic rule of the Monpas. The fort is located on a hilltop and comprises a four-storey stone slab, supported with wooden logs that could hold the entire population of the town during wars. A visit to a local village allows you to interact with the Monpa people and learn about their way of life. Monpas inhibit the Tawang district, and they can be easily distinguished by their distinctive attire. Post exploring the town and meeting the locals, check-in at the hotel and rest.

Day 03: Dirang to Tawang | En route Sightseeing (approx. 195 km | 4.75 hours)

Post breakfast, check-out from the hotel and travel to Tawang. During this scenic road journey, stop at Sela Pass and Sela Lake. You also get an opportunity to visit Jaswantgarh, a war memorial built to honour Mahavir Chakra awardee, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat. Pay a small visit to Nuranang Falls to admire the landform, and then drive till Tawang. On reaching here, transfer to the hotel to spend the night.

Day 04: Sightseeing in Tawang

In the morning, visit Tawang Monastery. Also called Galden Namgyal Lhatse, the site was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in the late 17th century. A visit to this humongous monastery presents a great opportunity to learn about the Tibetan culture. Later, move to Urgelling Monastery, the birthplace of the sixth Dalai Lama. The Arunachal Pradesh Jeep safari tour then takes you to Ani gompa – a nunnery of Tawang – and two enchanting lakes, namely Pankang Teng Tso and Sangetsar.

After lunch, take a trip to the Tawang War Memorial, and pay your respect to the martyrs of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. After the memorial tour return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 05: Tawang to Bomdila

After a delectable breakfast, drive to the charming town of Bomdila. Situated at an altitude of approximately 8500 feet, this town offers some stunning sights of the surrounding snow-clad mountains. A day in this destination is a perfect way to be away from the rush of the cities and relax. On arrival in the town, move to your lodging and spend the night.

Day 06: Bomdila to Bhalukpong/Tezpur

Post a healthy breakfast, check-out from the lodging and drive to Assam. Capture some splendid views of the surroundings during the drive, and on reaching Bhalukpong or Tezpur, transfer to your lodging to rest.

Day 07: Bhalukpong/Tezpur to Guwahati | Departure from Guwahati (approx. 235 km | 4.5 hours)

After breakfast head to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati to board the flight for your onward journey.
