Nestled near Tumkur- a mere hundred kilometres drive from Bangalore, Chennarayana Durga is a hill station, good for rock-climbing and trekking. With a height of 1,188 meters, this place is great for history fanatics as the stolid granite of a hill fort has borne witness to the rise and fall of several empires. Built by the lesser known King of Madhugiri, the fort was later handed over to the clever Marathas.

With numerous battles to conquer Chennarayana Durga, the Marathas and the Mysore Wodeyars toyed with it until the culmination of Third Mysore War. With hundreds of attempts made by the travellers and locals for hunting the hidden treasure, however, not a single attempt resulted in a fruitful outcome. There are various stories that revolves around this fort. You can even interact with the locals while on the trek as they will introduce you to some intriguing stories you might have not heard of. Nevertheless, people still keep coming to this place not for treasure now, but for the fantastic view from the hill.

Since, now no treasure is left in her chest, Chennarayana Durga trek still attracts plethora of trekkers who try their luck in terms with the terrains and come back to this place for a break from the daily tasks. Trek to Channarayana Durga holds beauty and challenge that attracts people who willingly take a chance to experience a different space altogether. 

The trek is doable and is categorized as a moderate trek, which commences from a tiny-quaint village that goes right up to the hill. The trek also has certain steep ascents, with absolutely no tree cover, so make sure you are prepared for it, as this part can be quite gruelling for beginners. Although, there are numerous popular treks around Bangalore, however, Chennarayana Durga trek offers history fanatics an intriguing trip to add in their bucket list.

Itinenary:

Day 1 : Arrive in Bangalore
On arrival in Bangalore, assemble at the pickup point on a scheduled time given by the trip leader, from where you will be transferred to the base camp of your trek. On the way, you will be served with delicious breakfast. On reaching the campsite at around 10:00 am, keep your belongings and after a little rest, head-out to begin your trek. Your trek will begin at 10:30 am and by 1:00 you will reach the top-most point. After having lunch at the pinnacle, you will descend back to the base that will take around 1-hour to reach. On reaching the base by 3:30 pm, your return journey to Bangalore will start by 4:00 pm.
