During a Bhutan and Bengal tour, you can see some amazing sights in the former and exciting wildlife in the latter political entity, respectively. On arrival at Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, drive to Phuentsholing – a border town in Bhutan. Complete the official formalities here, and then travel to the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu for well-inclusive sightseeing. Learn about the religion, culture and political history of the kingdom while touring the city. Do not forget to capture the natural beauty, which is abundant in the area. From Thimphu, drive to the city of Paro, and see its famous sites.
This Bhutan Bengal tour package includes visits to medieval fortresses, a museum and an old Buddhist shrine in Paro. It will allow you to obtain a lot of descriptive information about the bygone times of the country. The last leg of the journey will take you to the town of Lataguri in India. It is surrounded by dense grasslands and low hills that are home to a rich population of one-horned rhinos and elephants. Enjoy an optional Jeep safari to spot these wild predators, before returning home.
ITINERARY:
DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN NJP/ IXB | NJP/IXB TO PHUENTSHOLING (3-3.5 HOURS APPROX.)
Meet our travel representative at either Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). After the meet and greet, drive to the town of Phuentsholing by road that lies on the India-Bhutan international border. On arrival here, transfer to the hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening, ending it with an overnight stay.
DAY 02: PHUENTSHOLING TO THIMPHU (164 KM/4.5 HOURS APPROX.)
Obtain the necessary clearance to travel deeper into Bhutan, and then drive to Thimphu. On arrival here, check-in at the hotel and stay overnight.
DAY 03: SIGHTSEEING IN THIMPHU | THIMPHU TO PARO
Following a scrumptious morning meal, begin your Bhutan and Bengal tour sightseeing by exploring Thimphu. Owing to its approximately 7500-feet altitude, the Bhutanese capital enjoys a subtropical highland climate with pleasant summers and cool winters. Mountains, bearing lush coniferous vegetation, will be visible all around the city.
Visit the BBS Tower, and if permitted, then observe the Thimphu Valley from its highest storey. Be amazed at the sight of a huge sculpture of Avalokitesvara at Changangkha Lhakhang, which also contains huge prayer books. Immerse yourselves in a sea of peace at Buddha Point – known for the magnificent statue of Lord Buddha. Also as part of the sightseeing trip, travel to Changlimithang Stadium that hosts football and archery matches. Post this exciting sightseeing tour, head to the city of Paro. Upon reaching here, transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 04: SIGHTSEEING IN PARO
Have a filling breakfast at the hotel, and thereafter explore the city and its well-known attractions. Travel with this Bhutan Bengal tour package to Ta Dzong – a huge fort – built in 1649. Its six-storey central tower, now houses the National Museum of Bhutan that has exhibits as old as those dating back to 4000 BC. After exploring its immense collection, embark on an adventurous hike to Rinpung Dzong. It belongs to the Drukpa Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and it contains hordes of stupas and shrines.
Also see what remains of Drukgel Dzong – a fortification – used to secure the kingdom from Tibetan armies. The central tower, other structures and ruins of masonry walls can be seen here. A visit to Kyichu Lhakhang – a 7th century pagoda-style Buddhist shrine – is also included in the today’s tour. After this insightful day, reach the hotel and stay overnight.
DAY 05: PARO TO PHUENTSHOLING | PHUENTSHOLING TO LATAGURI (107 KM/2 HOURS)
Today, check-out from the hotel and travel by road to Phuentsholing. From here transfer to the town of Lataguri. Lataguri lies in the state of West Bengal, and it is geographically located within Dooars. The word Dooars is used to refer to the low-lying foothills of the Eastern Himalayas that are rich in wildlife. On arrival in the Lataguri town, travel to the resort/hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 06: OPTIONAL JEEP SAFARI (AT OWN COST) | LATAGURI TO NJP/IXB
In the morning, you may go on Jeep safari (at your own cost) in Gorumara National Park, which is about 7 km from the town. Look out for Asian elephants and one-horned rhinos on this fascinating wildlife journey through the dense grasslands of the region. Post safari, transfer to either Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station for your return journey.
