Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Sightseeing in Guwahati

After arrival at Lokproya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, travel to the hotel. On the way to the hotel, visit Kamakhya Temple and Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra. Legend has it that after a goddess, named Sati committed suicide, her body parts fell in different locations on the earth. The reproductive organ is believed to have fallen on the spot, where Kamakhya Temple is situated.

After visiting this holy place, move to Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra, a museum, which exhibits the cultural artefacts and traditional lifestyles of different ethnic groups. The complex houses an open-air theatre, where cultural programmes like dance and music performances are hosted regularly. Post this cultural retreat, travel back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Guwahati | Guwahati to Cherrapunjee (approx. 150 km | 3.5 Hours)

Have a sumptuous breakfast and then visit Navagraha Temple. The shrine was built in 1800 and is situated on Chitrasal Hill. It is dedicated to the nine planets as per the Hindu mythology, and its name corresponds to this fact. Post exploring the temple; take an approximately 5-hour drive to reach Cherrapunjee in the state of Meghalaya. On reaching the town, explore the town and later check-in at the hotel to rest.

Day 03: Trek to Single Decker Living Root Bridge

Relish a tasty breakfast, and then embark on a trek to a single decker living Root Bridge. In this section of this Guwahati and Cherrapunjee tour, enjoy a walk through the lush forests and vibrant landscape of Meghalaya.

The living root bridges of Meghalaya are a sight to behold and have been arousing a great deal of curiosity among travellers for a long time. These massive bridges are actually living as they are made of tree roots intertwined together. After visiting this amazing site, trek back to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure, listening to music being played by the local people. Post this cultural performance; enjoy an overnight stay in your room.

Day 04: Cherrapunjee – Mawlynnong – Shillong

Post breakfast, recommence the Guwahati and Cherrapunjee road trip by taking a thrilling drive to reach Mawlynnong village. On the way, pay a visit to Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak. Elephant Falls are one of the many waterfalls spread across Meghalaya. Located in Upper Shillong, it is a series of three water streams, falling along moss-covered rocks. After seeing the waterfalls, move to Shillong Peak. Located at an altitude of approximately 1900 metres, it is the highest point in the area. Owing to its height, it provides a good view of the city and its surroundings.

Located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, Mawlynnong is said to be the cleanest village in Asia. It offers natural beauty in abundance to onlookers, and the area is filled with flowerbeds, living root bridges and paved ways. It offers a picturesque view of the heavily cultivated plains of Bangladesh. After a tiring day, travel further to Shillong, and on reaching here move to the hotel to rest.

Day 05: Sightseeing in Shillong

In the morning, embark on a sightseeing tour to the DBCIC Museum, Butterfly Museum and Wards Lake. Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures gives clear insight into the culture and life of the various tribes in the area. Butterfly Museum or Entomological Museum is dedicated to butterflies and moths. Wards Lake is an artificial waterbody in the centre of the city that is surrounded by lush vegetation. If time permits, then stroll in the city markets to buy souvenirs, and end the day with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 06: Shillong to Guwahati (approx. 100 km | 2.5 Hours) | Departure from Guwahati
