Wilderness Camp Rohetgarh is seeped deep in history, tracing its origins to the Maharajas. It acts as an extension of the hospitality of the Rohetgarh Hotel in Jodhpur, which was built way back in AD 1622. The campsite is located about 17 km from the main hotel, in the middle of the vast Thar Desert. Six tents are set atop a sand dune, which is the highest point in the mostly flat region. The campsite is surrounded by low fortified walls of bricks and sand for a royal medieval look. All tents have shining and polished furniture of teak to sit on, and beautiful carpets of woven jute as adornments. The inner surfaces of the tents are decorated with traditional Rajasthani block prints, giving them a rich ethnic look.
Large windows with drop-down coverings and mosquito nets are features in all tents in order to allow you to behold the beauty of the sandy desert without insects ruining the day. Every accommodative unit has an attached bathroom, equipped with supplies of cold and hot water, wash basins and proper toilets. The under-canopy area is lit by lamps, kept near beds and on work desks. There is an open lounge area with woven jute furniture, and a proper restaurant with cushioned chairs for you to relish your drinks and meals. Both structures are made with dung plasters, and have thatched roofs and fireplaces inside. Taking a Jeep safari at Rohetgarh has been a favourite pastime of its guests for a long time.
For an exciting and memorable time, be sure to opt for a horse safari at Rohetgarh as the establishment has a rich collection of Marwari horses. Both of these ventures can be to nearby villages, where you may interact with the locals. This will give you an opportunity to learn about their culture, and if there is a festival while you are here, you may even attend that in the villages. You can alternatively tour the desert on the Jeep or horses, and spot animals that live here.
