Kareri, a high-altitude, small, freshwater lake at 9620 ft, lies almost 9 km south of Dharamshala. In the proximity, nature and mountainous airs make it an ideal spot for camping on a getaway. The soaring Dhauladhar range in Western Himalayas tower this shallow water body and its snow is a source for the lake and a stream. This source of fresh melting snow keeps the water visibility clear and the lake bed can also be seen in some places. A campsite alongside the banks will offer splendid views of both the clear waters and a sunrise over the Himalayan peaks in the morning.
Spend a day in McLeodganj or Dharamshala before you begin the trek. The trek starts from Salli in Kangra valley. After you enjoy the serene village far away from the hubbub of metro cities, camp in the peaceful environs and enjoy a spellbinding panorama upon exploration of Kangra valley. Trek onward to Kareri Lake the very next day. Camp alongside the banks of the lake and enjoy a retreat into the nature.
Surrounding the hilltop nearby, deodar, firs and spruces make for a great sight to just kick your feet in the air and unwind.
You can either descend to Ghera or return back to the campsite in Salli. En route your return, pay a visit to the local market. Trekkers can stop and pick up a few memoirs to forever lock in the memories of a short getaway to Kareki Lake.
