The Kumara Parvatha trek through the Western Ghats in Karnataka promises to be a challenging and exciting experience. The summit of the mountain, which is also known as Pushpagiri, is at an altitude of approximately 1,712 m. It is one of the most difficult hikes in South India, and it will require skill and determination from you. This is a three-day trip, which will begin once you are picked up by a coach from Bengaluru. You will drive to a small town near the base of the hill, where you will reach the next day. After freshening up, your Kumara Parvatha trekking will begin.

As the journey will be long and gruelling, it will be completed in four stages, with adequate rest being provided after each one. You will meander through dense forests, and before you know it, you will be out in the wide open Shola grasslands. A trek to Kumara Parvatha can be undertaken in any month, depending on what kind of an experience you are looking for. In summers, it will be slightly warm, and the challenge will be a demanding one.

The monsoon is quite strong in the region, making it one of the wettest places on earth. During this time, the difficulty will be elevated by soggy soil and slippery trail, but it will be compensated by the sight of lush mountainside. The best time to take a Kumara Parvatha trekking tour is the post-monsoon season, as the hills will bear thick vegetation, and the trail will not be slippery.

You will have to complete the ascent and a halfway descent on the same day, and this is what makes the excursion long. After camping at the halfway spot at night, you complete the rest of your downhill expedition the next day, and visit the temple at the starting point of the trail. You will end this wonderful tour by making the road journey back to Bengaluru.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Bangalore - Subramanya (Drive : 280 km | 8-9 hrs)

Reach the pick-up point in Bangalore at the scheduled time, and from there you will travel to  Subramanya, where the Kukke Subramanya temple is nestled. The route along the way will keep you hooked with its beauty and greenery.

Day 2: Base Camp - Kumara Parvatha - Base Camp (1,712 m | 10-11 km | 8-10 hrs)

On reaching the base camp of Kumara Parvatha, you will be served with a breakfast of delicious dishes that will provide you energy for the trek. After a little rest, head out for the trek and meet your trek leader and other teammates. You will be given an orientation about the trek, listen to it carefully and abide by it throughout your entire trek.

On the first part of the trek, you will start towards Bhattara Mane, which is a continuous 7 km hike uphill through a thick jungle. The route is wide and flat in the beginning, and later it becomes narrow as you near Bhattara Mane. The route is very well-marked, and the trail is laden with fallen leaves and beautiful logs that will yield beautiful pictures. The curvy trail will lead you out of the forest, from where the route to Battar Mane will begin. It will take around 3-4 hours to cover a distance of 5.5km to reach Batter Mane.

On arrival, indulge in some lunch and rest for a while. Then, you will begin your trek to Kumara Parvatha. After a short walk from here, you will reach the office of forest department, from where you will seek the permission for a trek to go deeper into the region. After the permission approval, resume the trek to Kumara Parvatha to reach another beautiful high spot. After this point, there is a constant incline of about 50 degrees, which will continue for around an hour, before you reach the first major halting point at the Mantapa.

On reaching the pinnacle, see the stupendous views, click pictures and then begin your return trek via the same route to Battar Mane. On reaching the camp, relax in your designated tent.

Day 3: Subramanya - Bangalore (Drive : 280 km | 8-9 hrs)

Rise up early to watch the beautiful sunrise, and have a hearty breakfast before starting on your return journey back to Bangalore.
