Detailed Itinerary:
Day 00: Arrival in Leh
On your arrival in Leh, proceed towards your pre-arranged lodging and stay there overnight. Located at an altitude ranging between 7545 and 16404 feet above sea level, Leh is wholly a mountainous region, with three parallel Himalayan ranges – Karakoram, Ladakh and Zanskar. After Kutch in Gujarat, Leh in Jammu and Kashmir is the second largest district in India. This place, for its beautiful sceneries of expansive valleys and snow-capped mountains, beckons horde of travellers every year. Some of the major attractions of the place are Stok Monastery, Pangong Lake, Shanti Stupa and Nubra Valley. Stay overnight at the designated lodging.
Day 01: Leh – Lamayuru – Wanla Duration: 4 hours
Freshen up in the morning and get ready for your journey to Lamayuru, which is the oldest surviving monastery of the Ladakh region. The drive from Leh to this famous monastery will take around three hours.
Lamayuru, amidst the picturesque backdrop of rocky mountains, is an ideal stopover on your way to Wanla. Dating back to 11th century, this monastery displays a rich collection of wall paintings, carpets, artefacts and statues from the bygone era. Apart from being a famous monastery, it is also known for its two grand festivals, where a number of sacred dances and rituals are performed to pay reverence to various Buddhist deities.
After a visit to this famous monastery on your Lamayuru Chilling trekking tour, proceed towards Wanla. To reach the 12303 feet high pass named Prinkti La, step down to a gentle trail, and then cross the small riverbed. As you reach this small pass, walk down to a small village of Shilla through a narrow gauge. Wanla is just about 3 km from here. On reaching Wanla, head towards your lodging and spend a night over there.
Day 02: Wanla – Hinju Duration: 8 hours
On this morning, get ready to capture the breathtaking views on Lamayuru Chilling trek, while you are travelling to Hinju. The trek starts from a dusty road, which leads to a small village of Phanjila. On reaching this village, you will come across two gorges; one goes to Zanskar and the other will lead you to Hinju. After visiting a couple of Ladakhi villages and stretches of barley fields, walk a little further to reach the meadow camp at Hinju. On reaching your campsite at Hinju, relax and spend a peaceful night there.
Day 03: Hinju – Sumdo Doksa (14535 feet) via Kongskil La (16240 feet) Duration: 7 hours
On this day, be ready with your bags to continue your Lamayuru Chilling trekking. The trek to Sumdo Doksa will start from a gradual ascent to Kongskil La, which offers a panoramic view of the fascinating Karakoram and Stok ranges. After crossing this ridge, take a short break as the second half of this trek is quite challenging and you have to pass through the scree covered trail. After meandering through this exciting and thrilling trek, you will reach your destination – Sumdo Doksa. As you reach your destination, get comfortable and enjoy the overnight stay under the star-studded sky.
Day 04: Sumdo Doksa – Dung Dung Chan La Base (14534 feet) Duration: 5 hours
Get ready in the morning and keep your cameras handy to capture the mesmerising beauty of the landscape during Lamayuru Chilling trek. From Sumdo Doksa, get ready to cross a set of varied trails and river crossings. Past river crossings, you will reach another quaint village of the region – Sumdo Chenmo. Now the second section of the trail starts with a gradual ascent to the base of Dung Dung Chan La. During the Lamayuru Chilling trekking through this path, you will be surprised to see some rare floral species of edelweiss. On reaching the base of Dung Dung Chan La, proceed towards your lodging and spend the night there.
Day 05: Dung Dung Chan La Base – Chilling (11646 feet) Duration: 2 hours
Today is the last day of your Lamayuru Chilling trekking tour, so get ready for your return journey to Leh. The trek starts with a simple ascent to the Dung Dung Chan La, followed by a gradual descent to the village of Chilling. From here, you will board your vehicle to end your journey.
