DETAILED ITINERARY:
DAY 01: ARRIVE LEH
As you approach Leh airport and the day is clear, grand views of K2 and Nanga Parbat welcome you. After being transferred to the hotel, enjoy your welcome tea/coffee and spend the day getting acclimatized to the high altitude. In the evening you visit Leh palace and Shanti Stupa and later take a walk around the local markets of Leh. Have dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 02: LEH - EXCURSION TO SHAM VALLEY
Have an early breakfast and start your journey along river Indus towards Sham Valley. Enroute visit the hall of fame museum dedicated to Indian soldiers. Proceed further towards Gurudwara Patthar sahib. A short drive further will take you to the gravity defying Magnetic Hill. Last spot will be the Sangam or confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers. River rafting is done only till this point. Later return to Leh and enroute visit Sppituk monastery built in fortress style on the summit of crags. You have the evening at leisure to explore the local Leh town on your own. Come back to the hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 03: LEH–NUBRA VALLEY VIA KHARDUNG LA 18,390 FT. (120 KMS / 4 – 5 HRS)
Post breakfast, set out for an adventure drive to Nubra valley, locally known as ldumra. Nubra valley is a mixed collage of snowy to harsh arid mountain peaks, from river banks to sand dunes. You will drive to the valley via Khardung La which is considered to be the highest motor-able pass in the world at the height of 18390 feet. Enjoy a photo-op at the pass and soak in the tremendous views of the Indus range and far away Zanskar ranges.
As you reach Nubra valley, check in to the camp and later you could take a stroll to the local villages, to get to know the local people and their delightful culture. Overnight stay at the camp or hotel.
DAY 04: NUBRA VALLEY – LEH (120 KMS / 4 – 5 HRS)
After having sumptuous breakfast, we check out and drive to Hunder to enjoy a camel ride in the sand dunes of the high altitude desert mountain. The specialty of these double humped Bactrian camels is the fact that they are the living legacy of the ancient Central Asian caravan traders. Later proceed towards Deskit, visit an ancient monastery situated at an elevated level offering stunning views of the Nubra valley. Reach back to Leh. Take rest and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 05: LEH TO PANGONG LAKE (140 KMS / 4 - 5 HRS – ONE WAY)
Have your breakfast and leave for one of the most gorgeous locations in all of Ladakh – Pangong Lake. On the way, you visit the Shey palace, the ancient capital of Ladakh, and Thiksey monastery which is quite a marvelous structure rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village. You reach Pangong Lake crossing the Chang La where you can stop for a quick photo session. The view of Pangong Lake is picture perfect and it changes colour based on the time of the day and weather. Interestingly, only one third of the lake falls in Ladakh, the rest goes to Tibet. You spend the night in a camp near the lake. Bear the cold winds at night and do star gazing before retiring for the day.
DAY 06: PANGONG LAKE TO LEH (140 KMS / 6 HRS)
In the morning enjoy your breakfast and set out to the lake to have one last view of this picturesque location before you head back to Leh. Enroute visit Hemis Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh and a must-visit place for its beautiful paintings and old murals whose dyed colours are extracted out from natural flowers. Return back to Leh and relax in the comforts of your hotel or go out for some last minute souvenir shopping. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 07: DEPART LEH (FLY OUT)
Today the tour comes to an end as you get transferred to the airport to fly back home.
