For those who are looking for an offbeat and unique weekend getaway from the humdrum of city life, there is no better opportunity than to indulge in a monsoon trek to Purushwadi Fireflies Festival. To dive into a myriad of colourful experiences on this trek amidst those fluttering and twinkling fireflies is enough to make up your mind to pack your bags!
The eco-tourism village of Purushwadi is located at a distance of 220 km from both Mumbai and Pune. An NGO named Grassroutes, which is involved in promoting eco-friendly tourism in rural areas across Maharashtra, holds the official Fireflies Festival in Purushwadi Maharashtra, which provides an opportunity to celebrate the beautiful colours of nature amidst those glowing and glittering fireflies. This festival is held annually from May to July, during which visitors get to witness the phenomenal glory of this natural festival to celebrate simple living and nature.
Grassroutes has really put in efforts during all these years to educate the urban populace on how people in villages live their lives. The efforts are pretty visible, for instance, the organic vegetarian lunch is prepared by the locals in their homes and is served to festival attendees. A fun touch to all this is the inclusion of village lifestyle activities and games, so that you can have a little fun with the locals and even hear their stories if you’re lucky.
The sugary light of those soft and warm fireflies slicing through the dark atmosphere of the surroundings has never failed to cast a spell of astonishment on onlookers. The Purushwadi Fireflies Festival near Mumbai also allows the trekkers to cast a look at the lifestyle of the indigenous tribes of the beautiful village.
