Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Srinagar
On arrival at the Srinagar airport, meet our travel representative and transfer to the houseboat for an amazing overnight stay.
Day 02: Shikara Ride | Srinagar – Sonamarg (9200 feet) – Zoji La (11575 feet) – Dras (10760 feet) – Kargil (8780 feet) approx. 200 km
In the morning, enjoy an incredible Shikara ride on the famous and picturesque Dal Lake. Thereafter, begin the Srinagar to Leh motorbike expedition and head out on National Highway 1D. Ride past Sonamarg – a famous hill station located on the banks of the Sind River. Further on the journey, cross Zoji La – a mountain pass acting as the gateway to the enchanting plateau of Ladakh.
On reaching the town of Dras, visit the famed Kargil War Memorial. The site has a sandstone wall, inscribed with the names of soldiers who died during the 1999 battle. After paying respect to the martyrs, head further to Kargil and on reaching here, travel to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Kargil – Namik La (12140 feet) – Fotu La (13450 feet) – Lamayuru (111120 feet) – Leh (11560 metres) approx. 210 km
Upon resuming the road trip from Kargil, ascend the mountain pass of Namik La and later Fotu La. Continuing the tour, head to the village of Lamayuru, and then finally reach Leh. On arrival in the city, transfer to the guesthouse for a relaxing sleep.
Day 04: Sightseeing in and around Leh
This phase of the Srinagar to Leh motorbike tour includes extensive sightseeing in the city area. Upon stepping out of the guesthouse, take trips to Shanti Stupa, Shey Palace, Hemis Monastery and Leh Palace. Shanti Stupa, sitting on a hilltop, was constructed with the idea of promoting peace in the world. Images of Lord Buddha and various Buddhist symbols are worth seeing and admiring here.
Shey Palace was constructed in the 17th century by the then king of Ladakh, Deldan Namgyal. Among the highlights of the complex is a gigantic statue of Lord Buddha, about 40 feet high that is covered with gold. Hemis Monastery has numerous colourful flags, prayer wheels, and images of guardian deities and the Wheel of Life. The primary attraction of the site is a huge idol of Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche.
Leh Palace is a nine-storey building complex, located in front of lofty mountains. Built by King Sengge Namgyal, this palace is mostly in ruins now, but amazing paintings and artworks on its walls are still visible. After this sightseeing tour, return to the guesthouse and rest.
Day 05: Leh – Khardung La (17852 feet) – Hunder (Nubra Valley) approx. 130 km
In the morning, get on your bikes and take the highway towards Khardung La – claimed to be the highest motorable road on earth. After descending from Khardung La, travel to the village of Hunder, located in the Nubra Valley. On reaching the village, transfer to the campsite for a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 06: Hunder to Leh (approx. 130 km)
In this leg of the Srinagar to Leh motorbike trip, head back across Khardung La on the way to Leh. Upon arrival in the city, transfer to the hotel for a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 07: Leh to Pangong Tso (14370 feet/225 km)
In the morning, commence yet another scenic section of the road trip and travel towards Pangong Tso. On the way, cross Chang La – a mountain pass at an altitude of about 17590 feet. Post reaching the scenic high elevation lake, take a walk, click photos and relax.
Later, transfer to the campsite and relish sitting around a warmth-giving bonfire. End the day with a peaceful overnight stay in your designated tent.
Day 08: Pangong Tso to Leh (225 km) | Departure from Leh
Trace the same picturesque route back to Leh and with that this thrilling trip comes to an end.
