Itinerary:
Day 01: Dadar to Tikona Peth | Trek to Tikona Fort | Tikona to Karjat
The expedition begins in the morning from Dadar. Take a relaxing nap during the journey on an AC bus to Tikona Peth – a scenic village famous for its fort. On arrival in the village, have breakfast. Then, begin your Tikona Fort trek. Situated around 3500 feet above, Tikona Fort is also known as Vitandgad. The trek experience will give you a chance to capture the panoramic view of the lush landscape of the village. There are two tracks leading to your destination. A tougher, but shorter route is available for travellers, who wish to take the challenge. The other route is ahead of the village and opposite to the fort, which later turns round to reach the fort. You will be rest assured of not getting lost in these treks as there are trail markers on the sides.
During the trek to Tikona Fort avail the opportunities to click pictures. A memorable picture with friends and family can be taken near the overhanging tree beside the gate. The two routes to the fort merge just after you have observed a cave and a shrine in the mid-way. Shivaji Trail is the last stretch, where perfect pictures can be captured with Tung Fort in the background. There are steep steps on this trail, but they are easy to climb with steel ropes attached on the sides. Be careful about the ropes as holding on to them for long can cause injury to your knuckles.
Later, you will reach a popular photography spot, where you will be given some time to click pictures and record videos. From here, you reach the top of the plateau, which offers mesmerising views of the mountains and the green surroundings. Visapur Fort and Pavana Dam are also visible from here. Amidst the scenery, have lunch to get rid of the tiredness. With the regained energy, you can start exploring the fort. It encloses a fascinating temple and cave. You will not realise how the time flew while exploring the gates and walls of the fort.
Trek down back to the foothills of the fort and take advantage of the time to click photos on the spots that you might have missed during the uphill journey. As the sun sets, you will be heading to Karjat for an overnight stay at a resort.
Day 02: Karjat to Bhekare Village | Rappelling | Departure
Commence your day with a drive to Bhekare Village from the resort. On arrival, enjoy local breakfast and start your trek to Bhekare Waterfalls for the adventurous activity of rappelling. The activity involves a controlled vertical drop from a cliff, a mountain or a waterfall using ropes. Training sessions before starting the activity are mandatory. Since, rappelling on waterfalls can be dangerous due to the slippery rocks and falling water, helmets and other safety guards are also provided. This experience of waterfall rappelling at Bhivpuri will be a memorable one for you.
Thereafter, indulge in local food to treat your taste buds. Later, you will travel downhill to explore the village and talk to the locals. After evening refreshment head out for your onward journey.
