Now you can go on an adventure activity that is far more thrilling than anything you may have experienced before. Ultralight flying gives you the opportunity to fly in an open cockpit much like the Wright brothers, except that you have all the spoils of modern technology at hand.
You get to fly almost like the birds, get to control an aircraft on your first flight, and see things like you have never done before.
Flying in an Ultralight at Pokhara is like a dream come true. You get stunning views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchchhre and other mountains of the high Himalayas. Fly over the Phewa Lake and take a closer look at the Nepalese countryside. This is an experience you cannot afford to miss!
You need to reach Pokhara at least an hour prior to your flight timing and go to the check-in counter to collect your boarding pass for your Ultralight Flight. Post that the crew members and your pilot brief you on the dos and don’ts, have you sign the liability waiver form and take you to the airfield. And you are all set to fly!
FAQs
1) What is an Ultralight?
An Ultralight or Microlight is a small 2-seater aircraft that has a powered engine. It carries 2 people at a time – the pilot and the passenger – with a total weight capacity of 600 kg, including the people on board and fuel (90 liters maximum). It can go up to 130 km/hr, with average speed of 80 km/hr.
2) Why Ultralight?
Ultralights are thrilling, high on adrenaline, and definitely recommended for all adventure seekers. Nepal makes for a perfect backdrop for this activity because of the spectacular landscape it has, from the verdant hills, high mountain ranges and peaks, lakes and gushing rivers. This is also a great opportunity to capture these unparalleled vistas from high above.
3). What should I know about an Ultralight flight?
Even though you are not required to have any technical knowledge, you would be briefed about the flight and what to expect. It goes without saying that you always follow the instructions of your pilot and the crew members. Trained and experienced pilots would make your flying experience as smooth as possible, but just like any other flight, an Ultralight flight also could encounter minor turbulence and that is normal. Also, in case of bad weather or airport restrictions, the pilot could abort the flight. In such a scenario, you will be advised whether to cancel the flight or postpone it. Flight routes could also sometimes be changed if your pilot feels the need to do so due to weather conditions or other factors.
4). Are there any passenger qualifications for an Ultralight flight?
To be able to take an Ultralight flight, your weight should not exceed 110 kgs and you have to be at least 18 years of age. We expect you to go through the liability waiver form and understand it fully and sign it before proceeding to fly. In case you are not of that age then a parent or legal guardian is required to sign for you.
5). How safe is an Ultralight?
Since Ultralights are light weight and fly at lower speeds, they have an advantage over normal aircrafts. Ultralights are designed to perform better even in long flights and can even land with the engines turned off. There is a ballistic parachute system in-built, that makes it possible to land safely, even if there is an emergency. Pilots are highly experienced and trained with hours of flying experience under their belt. Most of them have been associated with us for a long period and some are even from Air Force background.
6). What clothes do I need to wear?
Dress wisely. Choose comfortable and sturdy shoes, and it would be advised to carry a light jacket and/or sweater with you if you are travelling during autumn or winter months.
7). What can I take on the plane with me?
Due to the weight limit, you are not allowed to carry any extra baggage. Cameras are allowed but be sure to have them secured with straps. You can leave other bags etc. in the lockers and collect those post the flight.
