Visapur Fort is a beautiful hill fort located near Maharashtra’s Visapur village, on the Western Ghats and is a part of the two forts – Lohagad and Visapur. It is also larger and at a much higher altitude than the Lohagad Fort. The fort was captured by Shivaji Maharaj from the Mughals, but later the British captured Visapur and destroyed Lohagad. The northern and southern gateways of the Lohagad fort were blown up because of the fort having a major significance. However, the fort wall is intact even to this day. Situated about 9 km from Malavi Station, there are two routes to get to this fort – one from Malavi Station and the other by road, from Bhaje Caves to Lohagad base village (Lohagadwadi). Begin your Visapur Trek from Mumbai and head to the base village, Bhaje. Trek along the beautiful trail and behold views of the waterfall and greenery that are most alive during the monsoons. On reaching the top, explore the fort’s various attractions including a Hanuman temple and ancient caves. Finally, descend to the base village and commence your return journey to Mumbai. Itinerary
Day 1: Mumbai – Visapur
Gear up for an exciting weekend getaway to Visapur Fort. At 5:50 AM reach Kotak Mahindra ATM near Pritam Hotel Dadar (E) and meet your team there. At 6:00 AM, proceed to the base village, Bhaje. Pickup from the points - K Star Mall, Chembur East, Vashi, below Main Bridge, and Hotel 3 Star, Kharghar will be at 6:20 AM, 7:00 AM, and 7:20 AM, respectively. On arriving at the base village at 10:00 AM, enjoy a relaxing breakfast. At 10:30 AM, there will be a brief introduction session about the entire trek, after which you will begin with your Visapur Fort Trek. It is an easy trek amidst lush greenery, misty hills, and a beautiful waterfall. On getting to the top at around 1:30 PM, you are free to explore the fort. Enjoy various attractions such as the beautiful Lord Hanuman Temple, Ancient Caves Old Grinder, the enormous Visapur Fort Wall, a large and small Cannon, and a secret escape route. The fort also houses water cisterns, caves, old houses, and an ornamented arch. There are ruins of a huge stone house, which are known to be parts of Peshwa’s palace. After a wonderful exploration, have a delicious lunch at 2:30 PM and start descending. Reach the base village by 4:30 PM and rest for a while, before having your evening snacks at 5:00 PM. By 6:00 PM, prepare to leave for Mumbai with a heavy heart and beautiful memories of the trek. Reach Mumbai at 9:00 PM.
