Kaziranga Protected Area
Encircled by the blue waters of the Brahmaputra River, Kaziranga National Park is a home to about 70% of one-horned rhinoceros in the world. For its unique array of flora and fauna, Kaziranga has been declared as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This pristine wildlife destination is inhabited by the eastern swamp deer and seven species of tortoises and turtles. Other wild animals that roam fearlessly in the undulating topography of this protected area include leopard, wild water buffalo, hog badger, large and small civet, barking deer, capped langur and sambar deer. Climate:
The region here witnesses three seasons: summer, winter and monsoon. The winters are mild and dry with temperatures ranging between 25 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius. During summers, the weather remains hot and humid with temperature reaching to a high of 37 degree Celsius. The heavy downpour occurs in the monsoon that often floods the park and lasts from June to September. The average annual rainfall received here is about 2220 mm.
Season:
The best time to visit the park is from November to April as the weather remains most favourable during this period. The pleasant temperature, experienced during these months, lets tourists enjoy safari tours in the park to witness the inhabitants quite, comfortably.
Operations Closed:
From November 1st to April 30th, the park is open daily unless the unpredictable downpour occurs. It is open partially in the months of October and May. During the period from June to September, the park remains closed.
How to Reach:
By Road:
The park can be reached via National Highway NH 37. The nearest bus stop to approach Kaziranga is in Kohara. ASTC and a number of private buses are available from here to reach the park.
By Rail:
If you plan to come by train, then you need to come till Furkating, which is the nearest rail head and is approximately 75 km away.
By Air:
The nearest airport to this place is in Jorhat, which is located at a distance of 97 km. Another airport from where you can come to this destination lies in Guwahati, which is about 217 km away. Both these airports have connectivity with other parts of the country.
